A bustling city located 15 minutes north of Winston-Salem, King is nicknamed the “Gateway to the Foothills” for its proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sitting astride the Stokes/Forsyth county border, the town of 7,000 was originally a stage-coach stop named King’s Cabin. Officially renamed King in 1894, the community grew rapidly in the 1970s and was incorporated in 1983. King is home to the annual Stokes County Fair and hosts the celebration of KingFest, a community event held each October.
